Barbara Smith practices counselling and therapy in Hamilton and Dundas (Ancaster area), Ontario under the supervision of a Registered Psychologist or Registered Psychological Associate who are members of the College of Psychologists of Ontario.
Barbara Smith, B.F.A., M.F.A., G.I.T., M.Sc.R.P. , is a Gestalt Therapist trained at the Gestalt Institute of Toronto. Barbara provides individual and couple therapy for challenges such as depression, anxiety, indecision/procrastination, self-esteem and identity, stress, sexual issues/infidelity, anger, gender issues, and substance and behavioural addictions. Barbara’s focus is personal growth, fostering authenticity through clear communication and closing unfinished business of the past.
Barbara is a registered member of Ontario Association of Mental Health Professionals (OAMHP), a member of the Alumni Association of the Gestalt Institute of Toronto as well as being on the board of directors for the Gestalt Institute.
Barbara has post graduate training in Rogerian, Imago, Transactional Analysis, EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) and Image Transformation Therapy and has worked extensively with Patrick Carnes in the field of sex addcition. She is a Reiki practitioner, certified Kriya Yoga instructor, and has had extensive training, in martial arts and meditation. She is a graduate of the Four Winds Healing the Light Body School and a shamanic practitioner.
Barbara is a trained Mindful Self Compassion Teacher, trained by Kristin Neff and Christopher Germer and teaches Mindful Self Compassion courses in the Hamilton area. She also teaches Mindful Communication through the Professional Faculty Development at McMaster University.
Barbara’s style is warm, engaging, and supportive, often using humour to create a safe and compassionate environment for change so that her clients may have less regret, more clarity, energy, and a greater acceptance of themselves and others to be able to meet life authentically with dignity and grace.
