We are not currently accepting new clients
When challenges in life cause a need to take time off from your employment, our mental health professionals can help you navigate this difficult time, and help you get back to mental health and wellness.
Short Term Disability (STD)
Making the decision to take time off work can be difficult. There may be certain times in life, however, when a short-term leave from your employment is necessary. For reasons of health, personal loss, or unmanageable stress, a short-term leave may be the only solution. However, taking time off work can trigger feelings of guilt or stress; feelings that only serve to exacerbate your existing challenges.
The support and guidance of a mental health professional can assist you in navigating this difficult period, including:
- Organizing and submitting documentation required to support your time off work,
- Identifying the sources and triggers of your challenges,
- Offering skill-building to help you cope in positive and effective ways, and
- Supporting you through the challenges
STD Support Documentation
Clients who are requesting short term disability (usually 2 weeks to 3 months off work) can typically obtain the required documentation for their employer through their family physician.
However, if you do not have a family physician or are unable to obtain the documentation from them, Dalton Associates can help you find the right Registered Psychologist or Registered Psychological Associate who could provide consultation and the required documentation for your employer. Your extended health insurance benefits plan may may reimburse you for some, or all, of the associated costs.
Long Term Disability (LTD)
Individuals who require long term disability are often transitioning from short term disability; a process that can be challenging and stressful. At this point in time, you have already been away from work for a short period of time, but may be realizing that extending your leave is necessary.
You may wish to meet with a mental health professional to help you navigate the process and access support, including:
- Organizing and submitting documentation required to support your time off work,
- Supporting you with strategies to help you manage challenging emotions around taking time off work,
- Advocating for your needs, and
- Addressing the issues you are experiencing
LTD Support Documentation
The employers or extended health insurance benefits provider of clients transitioning to long term disability require documentation from an expert to confirm the challenges experienced and the continued disability status. Your employer (typically the Human Resources Department) works with your company’s extended health insurance benefits provider to ensure that you, the employee, is receiving the support you need in order to successfully return to work.
Dalton Associates can help you find the right Registered Psychologist or Registered Psychological Associate for consultation and the completion of the appropriate documentation, as requested by the employer or extended health insurance benefits provider (e.g. letter, report, form completion, etc). Your extended health insurance benefits plan may may reimburse you for some, or all, of the associated costs. Sometimes, employers will agree to pay for long term disability consultation and documentation.
